Content Summary
If you've been grinding Diamond Dynasty in MLB The Show 26, you cheap MLB The Show 26 Stubs already know how brutal High Stakes games can feel—and this one hit me harder than expected. I went in thinking I had a real shot at a third straight win, but instead I completely collapsed in one of my worst performances of the season, with Mike Trout going ice cold and the team taking five total downgrades. I'm still a bit stunned writing this, because just one game later everything flipped into a full comeback. So I want to break it down with you guys—what went wrong in the High Stakes game, how the second match saved everything, and whether this system actually feels fair when you're the one playing it.
1.What Makes High Stakes Games So Intense?
High Stakes matches are the most important games in this entire series.
The rules are simple but extremely punishing:
Winning doubles all Mike Trout upgrade points
Losing immediately causes 4 downgrades
Additional downgrades can occur if Trout performs poorly
Because of this system, every pitch and every swing can completely change your team's future.
Key takeaway: High Stakes games offer huge rewards, but mistakes are extremely costly.
2.A Strong Roster Built Before the Challenge
Before entering the High Stakes match, the team received several important upgrades:
Jordan Walker added to the outfield
Justin Robleski joined the starting rotation
Miz strengthened the pitching staff
Raleigh Fingers upgraded the bullpen
With these additions, the team finally reached a full Diamond-level lineup for the first time, increasing offensive expectations even further.
Key takeaway: The roster was at its strongest point before the High Stakes game began.
3.A Nightmare Game Against Noah Schultz
Despite strong pitching from Robleski, the offense completely collapsed.
Mike Trout failed to record a single hit, and the entire lineup managed only three hits over nine innings. Even well-timed swings consistently resulted in outs.
The result was devastating:
Loss in the High Stakes game
4 automatic downgrades
1 additional downgrade due to Trout's hitless performance
Total outcome: five downgrades in a single game
Key takeaway: Even elite pitching cannot save a team with a completely silent offense.
4.Refusing to Quit: A Second Game Begins
Instead of ending the episode on a bad note, a second game was played immediately.
This match had no High Stakes consequences—but it became a chance to reset mentally.
This time, everything changed.
Mike Trout opened with a triple, later hit a home run, and consistently reached base. Meanwhile, Miz dominated on the mound with double-digit strikeouts and complete control of the game.
The opponent eventually rage-quit.
Key takeaway: Momentum and confidence can completely change performance from one game to the next.
5.Mike Trout Leads the Comeback
The second game showcased Mike Trout at his best:
Triple
Home run
Multiple RBIs
Multiple on-base appearances
Combined with Miz's dominant pitching performance and the opponent's early quit, the team earned six total upgrades.
After subtracting the five downgrades from the High Stakes loss, the episode ended with a net gain of one upgrade.
Key takeaway: Even after disaster, a strong performance can completely recover progress.
